Parent
I was initially introduced to Autism Parents Together by a now close friend who is also a volunteer for the charity. APT provides support for parents/carers of Neurodiverse children. My daughter has recently being diagnosed with Autism, ADHD and sensory processing difficulties and it would have been a very lonely assessment journey without APT. I have gained so much knowledge and understanding of ASD since joining the parent Facebook support group. It is such a valuable group to be a part of, you can ask any question and know they’ll be plenty of helpful replies from other parent/carers that just “get it”. I have attended training courses provided by the charity such as “Autism in Girls” which was extremely insightful. They also provide subsidised events for our children such as exclusive hire of trampoline parks, swimming pools, soft plays etc. These events are also open to sibling which is fantastic. The events provide an opportunity for our children to be themselves without judgement and for us parents to grab a quick cuppa and chat to other parents who are going through the same thing, without judgement. The services the Charity offers within the Tees Valley area are outstanding. It bridges a huge gap in assistance /support.
